| The County Attorney, Marguerite
L Wageling, is a constitutionally elected official and is the chief law
enforcement officer in the County. The County Attorney is charged with
the prosecution of felonies and misdemeanor appeals from the district
courts. The office works in conjunction with the State Attorney General's
Office, Sheriff's Department, New Hampshire State Police and local police
departments to prosecute crimes committed within Hillsborough County.
Hillsborough County is broken down into two districts. Hence, the County
Attorney's Office is located in two cities. The Northern District Office, located in Manchester, is staffed by thirteen prosecuting attorneys, seven full time secretaries, one part time secretary one paralegal and several legal interns. The Southern District Office, located in Nashua, is staffed by seven prosecuting attorneys and three full-time secretaries. The responsibilities of five victim witness advocates are shared between the offices. The County Attorney's Office also works directly with the medical referee in cases of untimely deaths. The office also staffs a Domestic Violence Prosecutor who prosecutes domestic violence cases in the Manchester District Court. |
